Privacy Policy

The short version: We only collect what you give us on the waitlist form (name, .edu email, year, role, optional use case). We use it to email you when StateSwap launches. We don't sell it, share it with advertisers, or use it for anything else. Email marketvalleyllc@gmail.com any time to delete your data.

Who we are

This site (usestateswap.com) is operated by Market Valley LLC. We're a small team building StateSwap, a student marketplace for Penn State.

What we collect

When you sign up for the StateSwap waitlist, we ask for:

Your name — to address you in launch communications.
Your .edu email address — to email you when StateSwap is live, and to verify you're a real student.
Your year and primary intent (buy / sell / both / services) — to help us tailor the launch and prioritize founding sellers.
Optional "what would you list or look for" — to understand what categories matter most to students. You can leave this blank.

We also automatically receive:

Submission timestamp and a source tag indicating the submission came from usestateswap.com.
Bot-protection signals from Cloudflare Turnstile (a one-time token verifying you're a human, not a bot). This may involve a short-lived functional cookie from Cloudflare.

We do not use Google Analytics, ad networks, retargeting pixels, or any third-party trackers on this site.

How we use it

To notify you when StateSwap launches and give waitlist members early access.
To send occasional updates about the launch (no more than once a month before launch).
To prevent spam and abuse of the signup form.
To understand demand (e.g., how many students are interested in tutoring vs. textbooks).

We will not email you about anything other than StateSwap. We will never sell your data, share it with advertisers, or include it in any marketing list outside of StateSwap.

Who else sees it

Your submission is stored in a Google Sheet owned by Market Valley LLC. The only third parties involved are:

Google — stores the data in Google Sheets and runs the form-handling script (Google Apps Script). Subject to Google's privacy policy.
Cloudflare — provides the Turnstile bot-protection challenge. Subject to Cloudflare's privacy policy.
GitHub — hosts the static site (the page you're reading). Subject to GitHub's privacy policy.

We will not share your information with any other third party except if required by law (e.g., a valid subpoena).

How long we keep it

We keep your information until StateSwap launches and you've had a chance to create an account, plus a reasonable period after for follow-up. You can request deletion at any time (see below). If StateSwap never launches, we'll delete the waitlist within 12 months of confirming we won't proceed.

Cookies

This site uses one type of cookie: a functional cookie set by Cloudflare Turnstile to verify you're a human when submitting the form. This cookie is required for the form's spam protection. We do not use marketing, analytics, or advertising cookies.

Your rights

Regardless of where you live, you can email marketvalleyllc@gmail.com at any time to:

Access the information we have about you.
Correct anything that's wrong (e.g., updated email address).
Delete your record entirely.
Unsubscribe from launch emails (we'll keep you on the waitlist but stop emailing you).

California residents

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), you have additional rights to know what we collect about you, request deletion, and not be discriminated against for exercising those rights. We do not sell personal information.

EU/UK residents

If you're in the EU or UK, you also have rights under GDPR/UK GDPR, including data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. The legal basis for processing your data is your consent, which you give by submitting the waitlist form.

Children

StateSwap is intended for college students (typically 18+). We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a minor has submitted the form, email us and we'll delete the record.

Security

We rely on Google's infrastructure to store data. Access to the waitlist sheet is restricted to Market Valley LLC team members. No system is perfectly secure, but we use industry-standard practices.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, email waitlist members.
